Regular Membership Meeting

Dr. Ellen O’Connor called the meeting to order. 
 
Dr. O’Connor introduced Lee Garber, Sales Representative, Voyager Learning.  Lee then introduced Jaise Mursuli, Senior Product Consultant, who spoke on K-12 intervention solutions in Literacy and Math: Passport, Journey, V Math and Read Well.  Bags filled with overview materials and journal were distributed.
 
Secretary’s Report:  Mary Ann Napolitan distributed the minutes of the Regular Meeting of June 3, 2011. 
 
Vice President’s Report:  Brenda Grant thanked those present for attending.  She mentioned the new website, www.njafpa.net, and reminded those present that membership renewal October through September this year included both state and national associations for $125.

Dr. O’Connor mentioned that the association hired a marketing consultant and distributed a handout from JWF Consulting Solutions LLC.  She mentioned the new website, www.njafpa.net, and that it is a great source of information for NJ educators’ professional development. 
 
At present there are 51 registered for the Winter Institute which will be held here on Friday, December 2.  Mike Miles is the Keynote and we have breakout sessions by Donna Haye from Atlantic City, Bari Ehrlichson, Mary Jane Kurabinski, Karen Campbell, Interim Director, and Jeffrey Hauger on PARCC and the future of NJ testing. 
Our marking goal for December is 200.  Last year we had 125. 
 
Our goal for the Spring Training Institute on May 23-24, 2012 at Harrahs in Atlantic City  is 300-400.  Robert Marzano will be the program for the first day and he is charging the association a $10,000 fee.
 
The Commissioner has been invited for the second day and we will have DOE breakout workshop sessions.  Karen Campbell has been invited and Bari Ehrlichson cannot commit this early. 
 
Diane Mazzei said to Like Us or Friend  NJAFPA on Facebook She also reminded members to begin the nomination of two students for the four $2,000 scholarships to be awarded at the Spring Training Institute in May.
 
 Dr. O’Connor introduced Thomas M. Gambino, Ed.D., Central Regional Coordinator, Office of Governance and Leadership Development, NJ Department of Education.  Tom then introduced Elaine P. Davis, Director, Northern Regional Coordinator, Keesha Wright, Southern Regional Coordinator, and Al Perno, Principal, Jamesburg School District.  They spoke on promoting the vision of leadership which supports effective teaching and learning for all students. 
 
The next meeting will be held on Friday, October 21st at the Sheraton Eatontown.  The featured speaker will be Dr. Ray Allen, District Supervisor of Mathematics, Science and Testing in Atlantic City speaking on What Gets Monitored Gets Results.
