NEW JERSEY ASSOCIATION OF FEDERAL PROGRAM ADMINISTRATORS

$2,000 STUDENT GRANT AWARD

DIRECTIONS AND GUIDELINES FOR RECOMMENDING ELIGIBLE STUDENTS:
 
The N.J.A.F.P.A. will offer one $2,000 student grant to students from each of the three regional Areas of  New Jersey.
South – Atlantic, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester and Salem Counties;
Central – Burlington, Ocean, Monmouth, Mercer and Middlesex Counties;
North – Hunterdon, Morris, Passaic, Somerset, Sussex and Warren Counties, Bergen, Essex, Hudson and Union
Counties.
 
Criteria for Student Eligibility: Eligibility should be based on local district standards as follows:
 
  1. Students must have participated in a least one State or Federally funded program. Examples of such programs include Title I/ Chapter I, Bilingual or Basic Skills Improvement Program, at some point between pre-kindergarten and grade twelve.
  2. Student’s academic performance for grades 9, 10 and 11 should be above average based on local district standards.
  3. Student must show financial need and must be confirmed by the student’s district.
  4. Student’s attendance in grades 9, 10 and 11 should be average or above average based upon the recommending district’s standards.
  5. Student should be seriously considering post high school training with a focus in the profession of educational administration. Specific positions of focus include Guidance Counselor and School Administration.
  6. Student must have demonstrated a high level of good citizenship and extra curricular activities. Examples include community activities such as church, scouts, 4H, etc.
     
  7. Only 12th grade students are to be recommended.
 
Selection Process:
(a)        Selection of eligible students from each district should be based on above criteria.
            Selection will not be based on race, sex, religion or ethnic origin.
(b)        Each district with an Association member(s) is eligible to participate.
(c)        Recommended student’s names and all pertinent information relating to the
            student and local school district must be completed accurately and thoroughly on
            the enclosed forms provided by N.J.A.F.P.A.
(d)        The enclosed application must be completed by the N.J.A.F.P.A. member(s) and
            forwarded by March 12, 2012 to the Scholarship chairperson:

Award Procedure
 
(a)        The selected students, his/her parents, and local school officials will be notified by the NJAFPA Scholarship Committee by March 30, 2012
 
(b)        The parents, students and local school officials will be invited by the Association
            President to join us for lunch at the N.J.A.F.P.A. Annual Spring Training
            Institute that will take place at Harrah’s, Atlantic City on May 24, 2012.
 
The exact day and time for the parents, students and local school officials to be present will be noted in the correspondence.

Payment of Student Grant:

(a)        In order to collect this scholarship, each winner must send by October 31 to:

            1. A receipt showing that payment in full has been made for the fall
                semester, or
            2. A letter from the School Registrar’s Office indicating full time status.
 
(b)        A check will be issued to the student when the association receives verification
            of attendance in a post high school institution.
